IESE Cities in Motion Index

Return to the #68 Newsletter

The Cities in Motion Index, (CIMI) published by the IESE Center for Globalization and Strategy, examines all aspects that make up sustainability and quality of life in 181 key world cities, including 72 capitals, representing more than 80 countries.

Under the direction of Professors Pascual Berrone and Joan Enric Ricart, the index takes into account 77 indicators, covering 10 distinct dimensions of urban life: the economy, technology, human capital, social cohesion, international outreach, the environment, mobility and transportation, urban planning, public management and governance.

The initiative connects a global network of experts in cities and specialist private companies with local governments around the world. The aim is to promote changes at the local level and to develop valuable ideas and innovative tools that will lead to more sustainable and smarter cities.

The three editions of CIMI have had a great success among the media and city management.

Some of the data needed to feed the index has been found in the database “Cities”, available at the IESE Library. “Cities” comprises a standardized, fully cross-comparable socio-economic report library covering the world’s major metropolitan areas.

As CIMI is a dynamic project that improves year by year, we are looking forward to the 2017 edition!
