This ranking is based on turnover (2014 data), and it <b>includes companies operating in Africa whether they are homegrown or multinational affiliates<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Some highlights (refer to the tables below):<\/p>\n<p><b>Top-10 companies in Africa<\/b>: There hasn\u2019t been much variation relative to last year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sanlam, a South-African insurance company, came out of the top-10<\/li>\n<li>Bidvest Foods, another South-African company in the agribusiness sector, came in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Top-10 companies in sub-Saharian Africa<\/b> (SSA) (excluding South Africa):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Companies that came out of the top-10<\/b>:<br \/>\n-Flour Mills of Nigeria, agribusiness, Nigeria<br \/>\n-Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale de Raffinage, refining, Cameroon<br \/>\n-Kansanshi Mining, mining, Zambia<br \/>\n-Total Gabon, petroleum, Ghana<\/li>\n<li><b>Companies that came in to the top-10<\/b>:<br \/>\n-Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale des Hydrocarbures, petroleum, Cameroon<br \/>\n-Total Kenya, petroleum services, Kenya<br \/>\n-Safaricom, ICT\/Telecoms, Kenya<br \/>\n-Compagnie Mini\u00e9re de I\u00b4Ogoou\u00e9, mining, Gabon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1474\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2.jpeg\" alt=\"Ranking of Top companies in Africa\" width=\"744\" height=\"558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2.jpeg 3264w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2016\/02\/image-2-500x375.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Telecom MNC based in South Africa<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To be noted is that <b>Kenya is represented in the top-10 SSA companies while Nigeria has lost representation<\/b>.
