{"id":501,"date":"2014-07-23T12:00:19","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T11:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/?p=501"},"modified":"2016-10-28T14:33:58","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T13:33:58","slug":"africa-2-0-developing-african-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/2014\/07\/23\/africa-2-0-developing-african-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"Africa 2.0: Developing African leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an earlier post I talked about the role of business schools in <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/2014\/05\/28\/educating-african-managers\/\">educating African managers.<\/a> Some of these schools aim <strong>not only to educate managers but also to develop leaders<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lbs.edu.ng\/\">Lagos Business School <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/sbs.strathmore.edu\/\">Strathmore Business School,<\/a> for instance, set out to develop African leaders. <strong>At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iese.edu\/\">IESE<\/a>,<\/strong> we share this ambition \u2013 the slogan <strong>&#8220;developing leaders you can trust&#8221; captures our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iese.edu\/en\/about-iese\/iese-overview\/mission\/\">mission <\/a><\/strong>in a nutshell \u2013 but beyond business schools there are <strong>many other organizations aimed at developing African leaders.<\/strong> One such organization is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\">Africa 2.0<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_503\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-503\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-03-27-19.10.01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-503\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-03-27-19.10.01-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"A group of African business leaders (Alumni from LBS)\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-03-27-19.10.01-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-03-27-19.10.01-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/africa\/files\/2014\/07\/2014-03-27-19.10.01-624x467.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A group of African business leaders (alumni from LBS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>In its own words, Africa 2.0 is &#8220;a pan-African civil society organization that consists of young and emerging leaders from Africa and the diaspora who share a collective vision for Africa and a commitment to finding and implementing sustainable solutions that will in turn leapfrog the development of the continent.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>More than a network, <a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\">Africa 2.0<\/a> is a community.<\/strong> It brings together people from the <strong>private sector, government, and civil society.<\/strong> \u00a0While organized <strong>by the youth and for the youth<\/strong>, it bridges generations by bringing in seasoned leaders who can pass their experience on to the young ones. Members of this community are bound by a <strong>common goal<\/strong>: <strong>&#8220;Transform hope into action from today onwards in order to establish a prosperous and Inspiring Africa within the next 20 years.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Africa 2.0 works by first pilot-testing an initiative in a few countries, and then replicating this initiative in other countries with an active chapter. <strong>Current initiatives<\/strong> include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\/our-initiatives\/startup-africa\"><strong>Startup Africa<\/strong><\/a> supports African entrepreneurs who build new companies that contribute meaningfully towards the social development of communities;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\/our-initiatives\/rcci\"><strong>Regional Corporate Champions Index (RCCI)<\/strong><\/a> is a yearly report that identifies and rates African Corporations based on their social responsibility expenditure;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\/our-initiatives\/mentorship-program\"><strong>Mentorship Program<\/strong><\/a>offers a variety of formal and informal mentorship opportunities with the aim of fostering intergenerational dialogue and knowledge transfer;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\/our-initiatives\/infrastructure-advisory-facility\"><strong>Infrastructure Advisory Facility<\/strong><\/a>aims at accelerating the completion of infrastructure projects by mobilizing and seconding young African talents into government Project Management Units.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/africa2point0.org\/%20africa\/index.php\/our-initiatives\/africa-2-0-game-changers\"><strong>Africa 2.0 Game Changers<\/strong><\/a> features individuals and programs whose initiatives are transforming Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Isn&#8217;t this a vibrant community?
