The International Labour Organization (ILO) has revised upward its unemployment projections in its report, Global Employment Trends – Update. New labor market projections for 2009 show a further increase in unemployment, working poor and those in vulnerable employment. The ILO estimates that global unemployment could increase by between 29 million (lowest scenario) and 59 million (highest scenario) unemployed people in 2009 versus 2007, with a middle scenario of 39 million. 2009 will represent the worst global performance on record in terms of employment creation.
