The International Labour Organization (ILO) has just published the report, “Global Employment Trends: The challenge of a jobs recovery”. The study provides an overview of how the world’s labor markets have been faring during the ongoing economic recovery as well as projections of employment and unemployment prospects for the world as a whole as well as for various regions.
The report warns that a weak jobs recovery will continue through 2011, with youth employment remaining a global priority. The study shows a highly differentiated recovery in labor markets, with high levels of unemployment in developed countries, alongside employment growth but continued high levels of vulnerable employment and working poverty in developing regions. These trends stand in stark contrast to the recovery seen in several macroeconomic indicators.
