A web site which tracks and curates political news, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2016\/president\/us\/2016_republican_presidential_nomination-3823.html\">Real Clear Politics<\/a>, compares 15 of these candidates in the average of opinion polls and I thought I would review where the top\u00a0six stand with respect to climate change both in terms of their own beliefs and that of the the faith they claim to follow.<\/p>\n<p>Religion\u00a0is an important issue in american politics and this is especially true in the Republican party where candidates are very pubic about their faith and how it drives their political agenda.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2081\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2081\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/06\/imgres.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2081\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/06\/imgres-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Jeb Bush\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2081\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeb Bush<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jeb Bush (16.3%) &#8211; Governor Bush reportedly admits that the climate is changing but does not acknowledge that it is a man made phenomena and pointedly <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/2015\/06\/21\/pope-francis-and-climate-change\/\">rejected<\/a> Pope Francis&#8217;s entry into the debate. Although he was raised in the Episcopal church, Jeb Bush became Catholic in 1994 and may find himself at odds with the church over the issue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2126\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2126\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/scott-walker-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2126\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/scott-walker-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Scott Walker\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2126\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott Walker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Scott Walker (10.6%) &#8211; The Governor of Wisconsin has not officially declared\u00a0his candidacy but is taking all the usual steps including the new book and a tour of the country. As Governor, he is fighting the Obama administration&#8217;s clean energy iniciative\u00a0and appears to be sympathetic to groups who question the whole idea of climate change. Walker&#8217;s father was a Baptist preacher and he describes himself as evangelical.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2127\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2127\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2127\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Ben Carson\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Ben Carson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ben Carson (9.8%) &#8211; On climate change, Neurosurgeon Ben Carson is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/updates\/ben-carson-believe-candidate-stands-10-issues\/\">reported<\/a> to have\u00a0said that the debate is &#8220;irrelevant&#8221; and that climate change is cyclical. His church, however, The Seventh Day Adventists does make a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adventist.org\/en\/information\/official-statements\/statements\/article\/go\/0\/the-dangers-of-climate-change\/\">very clear declaration<\/a> of the Rio Principals and is very much in line with Pope Francis and mainstream environmentalist groups.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2128\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2128\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/images.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2128\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/images-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Marco Rubio\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2128\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marco Rubio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Marco Rubio (9.3%) &#8211; Senator Rubio (Fla) is unambiguous in his ambiguous support of climate change deniers essentially saying that temperature cycles are normal and it is unclear what part of the current cycle is due to mankind&#8217;s contribution according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/post-partisan\/wp\/2015\/04\/19\/rubios-intellectually-hollow-position-on-climate-change\/\">Washington Post<\/a>. Rubio is Catholic and like his mentor turned adversary,\u00a0Jeb Bush, will need to figure out how to square his position with that of Pope Francis.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2129\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2129\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2129\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Rand Paul\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.iese.edu\/doing-business\/files\/2015\/07\/imgres-1.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rand Paul<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rand Paul (7.3%) &#8211; The Senator from Kentucky is almost unique in the Republican line up in that he actually does acknowledge climate change as a man made problem although he does oppose President Obama&#8217;s legacy on the issue and has vowed to roll back the leglisaltion\u00a0that calls for a reduction of U.S. greenhouse gasses. Paul is \u00a0currently a member of the Presbyterian church which has urged its members to follow a carbon neutral life since <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Presbyterian_Church_(U.S.A.)_Carbon_Neutral_Resolution\">2006<\/a>\u00a0and has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presbyterianmission.org\/ministries\/environment\/climate-change\/\">important focus<\/a> on environmental matters today.<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump (6.5%) &#8211; The investor\/TV star&#8217;s opionion about the issue deserves to be heard first hand in the video below as it defies any kind of critical comment.
