  1. People simply like the fact they have the tangible asset in front of them which they can play with. It seems now to be the norm that we need a smartphone for work, another for personal, use a tablet, a laaptop and some number crunching desk top power as well.

    All the manufacturers know how to create the necessary hype which keeps the public begging for more – upgrades, products, add ons.

    The reality of it this is in fact that most of us have a desktop which we bought five years ago and which works perfectly well for what we need – but we are all hooked and need the latest ‘thing’.

    As regards sofware – you can’t see it, therefore people are less interested in accumulating anything more than the bare minimum

  2. Using hardware to secure market share makes sense, but I’m struggling to see that working for Facebook!
