In this post, Bhavishya (BK) Kanjhan, Class of 2019 and President of India Club describes the annual Diwali festivities held at IESE.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the greatest benefits of coming to a school like IESE is the international exposure you get by virtue of a very diverse class. Interacting with classmates from all over the world helps us expand our worldview and develop a whole new perspective.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the school also provides opportunities to share our own culture with our classmates. By involving classmates in our cultural activities and celebrations, we can share with our classmates the experiences that have shaped the way we think and operate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is with this objective that the India Club of IESE held its annual Diwali celebration in November. As a club, we made sure the evening featured shiny lights, bright colours, and a 3-course meal featuring some of India’s most savoured dishes. However,<\/strong> it was the enthusiasm displayed by our classmates that brought the night to life.<\/strong> For starters, it was positively overwhelming to see so many of them make an effort to buy or borrow Indian clothes. The women wore stunning saris and flowing salwar kaameez(es) while the men flaunted their colourful dupattas with kurtas. Another highlight was having a Henna artist to adorn their hands of the ladies (and even some gents) to provide that last finishing touch.<\/p>\n

After food and colourful clothes, the next thing that comes to mind when you think of India is dance! Students from both years came together to set the stage on fire by delivering choreographed performances set to contemporary Bollywood music.<\/strong> Weeks of preparation and practice bore fruit in the form of deafening screams and applause from their classmates. For those that did not get on the stage, the dance floor was where they showcased their moves. Fuelled by a Dhol player (Indian drum from the north of India) and a 3-hour Bollywood set (plus some Reggaeton), we sang and danced and screamed late into the night.<\/p>\n
