The power, reach and influence of social media appear to know no bounds. By 2020 the number of worldwide users is expected to reach some 2.95 billion, around a third of the world’s population, according to eMarketer. Since their creation these internet-based applications and websites have revolutionized the way people experience many facets of everyday life, from their personal relationships to the way they shop, do business and find jobs.
On average, global internet users spend some 135 minutes per day surfing social networks. While using social media can help people connect with others and share knowledge and ideas, its abuse, misuse and overuse has become a major source of public concern.
For this issue of the newsletter we have listed a selection of resources available for the IESE Community that could be useful for better understanding the role of social media in business. For better or worse it appears that they are here to stay.
