The International Labour Office (ILO) has just launched the Global Report on Equality at Work 2011, entitled “Equality at Work: The continuing challenge”. The study warns that, in spite of continuous positive advances in anti-discrimination legislation, the global economic and social crisis has led to a higher risk of discrimination against certain groups such as migrant labor.

The full report is available online.

The ILO‘s International Institute for Labor Studies has just published a study titled “The Financial and Economic Crisis: A Decent Work Response“, which analyzes demographic trends and forecasts their impact on societies. It predicts that nearly 90 million net new jobs would be needed between 2009-10 to absorb new entrants in the labor market and avoid a prolonged jobs gap. The emphasis on jobs comes from evidence provided in this paper that it will not be possible to reactivate the economy in a sustainable manner unless greater emphasis is placed on decent and productive employment for women and men, well-designed social protection and workers’ rights. Measures are best implemented through social dialogue in countries, but greater cooperation at the international level can also have mutually-reinforcing benefits.

The report examines current rescue efforts in 32 countries including all members of the G20.
