Interested in exploring history through data, maps, and smart visualization? Ever wondered how people moved across the Roman Empire?

Itiner-e is a digital, interactive atlas of the Roman road network, often described as the “Google Maps of the Roman Empire.” It maps nearly 300,000 km of roads, allowing you to explore routes, estimate travel times, and see how cities were connected two millennia ago.

Built as an open, collaborative scholarly project grounded in archaeological, historical, and topographical data, it brings together history, geography, and data visualization in one platform—a smart vision of ancient infrastructure for curious minds ready to explore how the Roman world was connected. After all, all roads lead to Rome.
