Build a List of Competitors

Sometimes it is not easy to identify which companies are your real competitors. Capital IQ offers an easy way to perform a competitor’s analysis.

Go to Capital IQ and search for the company you are interested in, typing the company name in the search box.

Once you have retrieved the company profile, from the left links under “Peer Analysis” click on the “Quick Comps” link. When viewing the Quick Comps page for a company, you will find a list of pre-defined comparable companies.

S&P Capital IQ will automatically select companies that are deemed to be the best comps, but you can also edit the list of companies (adding or deleting them) and save it as your default for that company. Additionally, you can customize the data points and tabs that appear on these pages.

The Quick Comparable Analysis page has a Capital IQ Default Comps Template, consisting of the following tabs: Financial Data, Trading Multiples, Operating Statistics, Business Description, Implied Valuation, and Valuation Chart. You can select a different template from the template dropdown on the page.

Remember: Capital IQ first-time users must register clicking on “New User?”. Then use your personal account for future access.
