Empowerment and Connection
In January, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Future Female Leaders Award (FFLA) at IESE Business School in Barcelona. From the moment I arrived on campus, I felt both inspired and welcomed. The event brought together a diverse group of ambitious women from around the world, and I’m truly grateful to have been part of it.
A Bit About Me
I’m currently a medical doctor working in general surgery, with a strong interest in cancer research and healthcare innovation. As I explore the next steps in my career, I’ve become increasingly drawn to leadership opportunities that intersect medicine, technology, and business. That curiosity is what initially led me to IESE and the FFLA.
Why I Applied
I found out about the Future Female Leaders Award while researching MBA programs that emphasize values-based leadership. The program immediately stood out—not only because of its strong academic reputation, but also because of its commitment to diversity and female empowerment. I saw the FFLA as the perfect chance to explore IESE’s culture, connect with like-minded women, and reflect on my personal leadership journey.
FFLA Highlights
The three days I spent in Barcelona were packed with learning, networking, and inspiration. We kicked off the weekend with a warm welcome from the admissions team and dove right into IESE’s vibrant campus life. One of the highlights was attending the Women in Business Conference, which featured powerful panels and workshops led by IESE alumnae and corporate leaders. From discussions on breaking glass ceilings to sessions on authentic leadership, the conference gave me practical tools and a renewed sense of purpose.
Beyond the formal sessions, I also really valued the informal moments—sharing stories over tapas in the heart of Barcelona, exchanging ambitions with fellow participants, and hearing the unique journeys of other women from vastly different industries and backgrounds. It reminded me that leadership comes in many forms, and there is no single path to impact.
Lessons Learned
One of my biggest takeaways was that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about asking the right questions and being open to growth.
I was struck by the humility and honesty of the speakers at the Women in Business Conference, many of whom shared not only their successes but also their struggles. It was refreshing and empowering to see such openness in a high-achieving environment.
Another insight I took with me is the importance of building a support network. The connections I made during FFLA were genuine and uplifting, and I left the event feeling part of a global community of women striving to make a difference.
Final Reflections
If you’re thinking about applying to the next edition of the FFLA—do it. It’s more than a leadership award. It’s an invitation to challenge yourself, meet brilliant people, and gain insight into what kind of leader you want to be.
I left Barcelona not only more informed about the IESE MBA, but more confident in the value of my voice and experience.
Thank you to the IESE team for organizing such a meaningful and memorable event. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next—and I hope to cross paths again with the incredible women I met at FFLA.
