If you’re a podcast fan, we have some exciting news for you. IESE Beyond the Bio is a new podcast launched by two IESE MBA Class of 2022 students, Ally O’Donohoe & Tiernan Lean, showcasing the diverse lives and stories of the IESE community. In this post, Ally and Tiernan give us a brief background of how it came about.
The idea behind IESE Beyond the Bio started as a conversation at the end of our first semester in first year. Licking our wounds at not having been selected as First Year Directors in any clubs, we felt another podcast was exactly what the world, and IESE community, needed. All joking aside, it came from a reflection on what we considered to be one of the priceless aspects of the MBA experience: our classmates and their stories. Having had multiple conversations, at dinners, after class, over coffee, we thought that it would be a shame not to share some of the diverse and wonderful stories we have come across at IESE.
As we both possess an insatiable appetite for consuming podcasts, we thought it couldn’t be that hard to recreate our own so armed with a microphone (designed for drumkits) and two coffee cups (to hold up the microphone) IESE Beyond the Bio was born in a Barcelona kitchen in January 2021.
Fast forward eight months and having tricked and cajoled people into helping/agreeing to be interviewed, we are delighted to be able to share their stories with the wider community. Our guests so far include former Career Development Center Associate Director Michael Mascarenhas (MBA 17), our MBA 22 classmate Tanaka Mawindi, former MBA Admissions Director Pascal Michels (MBA 10) and Operations Professor Weiming Zhu.
We’d like to thank each and every one of our guests for not only being generous with their time but for their openness during our discussions. What we’ve loved about the experience is being able to uncover unique stories, learning about individual lives, and being able to share these with anyone who is interested! Here’s to Season 2!
