Comment: Kennedy came to Houston to defend his candidature for the presidency of the United Stated that year. It had been publically asserted that a Catholic president would owe his allegiance to the Pope in Rome and not to the Constitution of the United States. Kennedy delivered this speech in a more forensic style and not in his usual visionary and deliberative style.
