The crisis of the Rohingya boat people is another example of a tragically complex situation which has played out over the last 200 years as a consequence of the political development of Myanmar and raises a question for the international community about how to engage with the country.
No Melting Pot in Europe
The humanitarian issue in the Mediterranean is only part of Europe’s Immigration challenge. The real issue is to choose between forcefully shutting the borders or allowing immigration and encouraging a generation of immigrants to adopt european values by integrating them into civil society.
