On December 3, 1992 the first SMS message was sent. These days we use this technology less, but the type of communication that it produced is now an everyday affair, says IESE Prof. Javier Zamora.

Javier Zamora is currently senior lecturer in the Department of Information Systems. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and his M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He holds also a PDG from IESE.

  1. Indeed, but one of the important component of SMS was the mobility, turning asynchronous communications into nearly synchronous ones

  2. I believe that the telegraph was the first way to connect and create the Short Messagins Service. Telephone networks have facilitated the creation of SMS. Smartphones have created applications like WhatsApp and success of social networks have created Twitter. People need to be constantly connected. We live very quickly and we need comuninicarnos quickly and short. The technology is at the service of men for us to cover our needs.
